TV shoots, free breakfasts and creating cool stuff: An intern’s journey to a full time job

In January of this year we had three talented individuals start with us at the Zoo. Roheena, Hannah, and Felix started in the PR, Film, and Learning teams respectively and have taken some time to talk about their expectations, experiences so far, and the foreseeable future.

What did you expect before you walked in the door as an intern at The Zoo?

Roheena:

In all honesty, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Every office is different and it’s slightly unsettling not knowing what you’re walking into. But after my first day I found the atmosphere was very welcoming, and the kitchen was packed with food! (which is always a bonus).

Hannah:

I thought that I would just be making tea all the time (I don't know how to make tea so that was stressful). However by the end of my first week I was running on a shoot for a TV commercial! I was overwhelmed by how supportive the film team were, and how quickly I was trusted with a variety of different tasks.

Felix:

I was prepared to be overprotective of my own snacks and bring my own tea! But no, everyone is really friendly, we care for each other and we share things.

What did you discover about yourself during your internship?

Roheena:

That I can tackle almost anything that is thrown at me, it may not be 100% perfect the first time but there is nothing wrong with that. We learn from our mistakes and we shouldn’t be afraid to make them!

Hannah:

That I really enjoy all the elements of film production, and that I really love a spreadsheet.

Felix:

Sometimes I just need a little more confidence in myself and my work, believing that I can push forward and that I have pushed forward. It's all about learning and improving.

What does the future hold for you?

Roheena:

More Media Zoo! I was actually offered a permanent position as a Junior Account Executive, which I definitely wasn’t expecting. Not because I thought I wasn’t doing a good job but more as it’s hard to make a lasting impression in such a short time. I’m excited to continue my journey here, getting more involved with our clients, upcoming projects and just general life at the Zoo.

Hannah:

I'll be staying with Media Zoo as a researcher on the film team, which I am super excited about!

Felix:

I am very grateful that I will be staying in Media Zoo as digital designer. I started off being more of a graphic intern, but slowly getting involved in other projects like video editing and animation; it is really exciting to be able to work on different areas and create cool stuff.

Thanks to our interns for sharing their experiences, and a huge congratulations to all on securing permanent roles here at The Zoo. Media Zoo is growing fast and believe in nurturing talented people in their chosen field.
